SMIU to recover Rs 12.598 million from former VC

The Sindh Madressatul Islam University’s Finance Department has decided to recover Rs 12.598 million from the bank account of the SIMU former Vice Chancellor Dr Muhammad Ali Shaikh after the Departmental Accounts Committee (DAC) meeting.

In a letter, the SIMU director finance has stated that the DAC in its meeting held on April 13 on the audit inspection report for the Fiscal Year 2019-20 has made the decision to recover the said amount. In this regard, the committee made a decision stating; “the reply of SMIU management was not convincing. One can’t be the judge of his own. The person can’t set his own salaries, perks, and privileges”.

“The powers are lies with appointing authority—Chief Minister. The DAC directed to work out the salary, with TTS and MP Scale as approved by the appointing authority and the differences in pay as Vice Chancellorship may be recovered from his pension”.

The letter reveals; “the working sheet of his pension may also be provided for verification. In the light of the DAC decision and compliance, it is intimated that drawn statement showing an excess amount of Rs 12.598 million already paid on account of salary from February 20, 2012, up to August 17, 2021”. This amount should be recovered from the monthly pension of the former VC for the month of June 2021 and onwards.
