SSUET established relief camp for flood victims

Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology (SSUET) has set up a relief camp at the campus to collect relief items for the flood victims, clothes, blankets, water bottles, tents and other relief materials for flood victims.

Assistant Commissioner, District East, Abdul Sattar Hakro accompanied by the Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Vali Uddin and Registrar Syed Sarfraz Ali inaugurated the camp. A large number of students and faculty members including Dean, Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Dr Muhammad Aamir, Dean Faculty of Computing and Applied Science, Dr Aqeel Ur Rehman, Dean Faculty of Civil and Architecture Dr Mir Shabbar Ali, Director Sports Mubashir Mukhtar were present on the occasion. Organizer Senior Lecturer Yasir Zaheen gave a brief summary of the efforts of his team for the collection and distribution of flood relief items.

Speaking on the occasion, Assistant Commissioner, District East, Abdul Sattar Hakro, said that the heavy rains have caused disasters in the different areas of the province resulting in the collapse of thousands of houses and left countless people homeless. There is no proper planning for drainage of water, nor do we have the system to store.

Expressing grief and sorrow over the widespread devastation, including the loss of precious lives and damage to livestock, and infrastructure, Vice Chancellor SSUET, Prof Dr Vali Uddin said that the worst spells of downpour in the country’s history has badly affected the country, especially Sindh and Baluchistan.

He appealed to the benefactors, the philanthropists, to come forward and help the rain and flood affected people. He said that if the provision of aid and rehabilitation process is not timely started, there might be a risk of human tragedy.

Registrar Cdre (R) Engr Syed Sarfraz Ali, said that SSUET faculty members and students are working hard to collect the essential items for the flood victims. He thanked the Assistant Commissioner for his support.
