HEC Zone M, Inter-University Football Championship has started under the collaboration of Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology (SSUET) and the Higher Education Commission (HEC) Pakistan.

The championship was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Vice-Chancellor SSUET, Prof Dr Vali Uddin at Sixteen Star Football Ground. Registrar SSUET, Cdre (R) Syed Sarfraz Ali, Director Sports SSUET, Mubashir Mukhtar, Javed Iqbal, Mohsin Ali Khan, Noman Uddin and others were also present on the occasion. On the opening day, IoBM, SSUET, IBA and Indus University won their matches.

The Chief Guest VC SSUET, Prof Dr Vali Uddin said that it is at our top priority to provide healthy activities to the students besides education. Apart from football, we have also hosted the HEC events of hockey and shooting and we are well prepared to host future sports events as well.

He thanked Chairman HEC, Dr Mukhtar Ahmed for giving Sir Syed University the responsibility to host football event.

Appreciating the performance of Director Sports HEC, Javed Ali Memon, he said that HEC sports activities are achieving great success all over the country because of the sincere and significant efforts of Javed Ali Memon.

Registrar SSUET, Syed Sarfraz Ali pointed out that eight teams are participating in this championship and we are witnessing the best football games. Students learn to face the challenges of life and fight against the odds in life through healthy activities.

In the matches played on the first day, IoBM defeated Habib University by 5-0, and IBA beat NED University by 2-1. In the last match, Indus University beat DHA Suffa at penalty shootout after tough competition. SSUET played against PAF KIET and PAF KIET was technically disqualified.

In the semi-finals, Sir Syed University will play against Indus University, while IoBM will play against IBA. Final of the 3-day championship will be played on Friday.
