The Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training (MoFEPT) is set to launch a two-way Short Message Service (SMS) system ‘8228’ in the coming week for Tele school to improve communication with the public.

According to the sources in Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training, the SMS system has been developed in collaboration with Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), National Technology Council (NTC) of Higher Education Commission (HEC), Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MoIB) and other telecom companies.

The aim of the two-way SMS service will be to improve Tele school, to improve communication with parents and the public through SMS system, the ministry added. The steps were taken under the Prime Minister Imran Khan’s vision of Digital Pakistan Reforms.

They also said that the initiative was being taken as Federal Education Ministry was keen to achieve digitization of education system in Pakistan. The Tele school was winning praise not only in Pakistan but abroad as well, officials added.

In the post COVID 19 pandemic world, they said, such measures will help to enhance access to education for a large number of students. Everyone should give feedback on Tele school initiative, the sources added.

A parliamentary subcommittee on Monday raised their concerns about the dilapidating state of affairs of public schools in the capital, particularly the ones that were situated in rural areas. A subcommittee of the Senate Standing Committee on Federal Education and Professional Training held a meeting at the Parliament House and discussed matters related to the maintenance of public schools in the capital. Participants of the meeting had consensus over the preposition that Islamabad’s public schools should act as a role model for schools in other parts of the country.
