TEVTA, Facebook to train 10,000 Students in Micro-Entrepreneurship: Chairperson TEVTA

Lahore: Chairperson TEVTA Ali Salman Siddique while addressing at TEVTA Secretariat regarding the Implementation of She Means Business Program by Meta formally known as Facebook Inaugurated by President of Pakistan Dr Arif Alvi on Tuesday for training 10,000 students Across Punjab under Hunarmand Nojawan in collaboration with Meta formally known as Facebook. Students from across Punjab will be trained in using digital platforms Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp to launch and grow their small businesses. 3000 women entrepreneurs from across Punjab have already been trained under this initiative in 2021.
Briefing the Attendees regarding the Event, the Chairperson said that the President Appreciated the Initiative and directed to engage youth and building their skills so they can make the best of future employment and entrepreneurial opportunities. The President further hoped to see the next ten thousand people trained by this partnership create a positive impact across Pakistan.”
The Chairperson further added, “We have worked heavily on Policy level by developing a New Skill Ecosystem, we have increased access to Skill Education through Introduction of PKR 1500 Million Hunarmand Nojawan to add Additional 100,000 Students to training, Improved Quality through Internationally Recognized Competency Based Training & Assessment (CBT&A) & International Accredited our Institutes through Asia Pacific Accreditation & Certification Commission (APACC), Conducted 1st Skill Mapping of Punjab, Provided Better Economic Opportunities by Providing On Job Training with enactment of Apprenticeship Act 2021 after 60 Years and launching Pakistan’s 1st Skill Technology Park to Provide Youth with Hi-tech Skill Ecosystem.”
Highlighting the Need for Women Empowerment, Chairperson said, Women Empowerment has been a critical aspect of our Skill Ecosystem and we are delighted that with Global Partner Meta (Facebook) and particularly “She Means Business” we have been able to make a difference in lives of 3000 Female Students and their communities. We have been able to positively impact their economy with Female Students now earning more than PKR 1 Million Annually, so much so that one of the success story of Shireen Botique from Rahim Yar Khan has been mentioned Globally. Most encouraging aspect for us has been the talented population of Pakistani youth that reside outside of main urban centres. Youth living in semi urban and rural parts of Pakistan are no less in talent or skill than young people anywhere else in the world. I offer all support with hope that Meta will continue to invest in the young people of Pakistan and will grow their investments and commitments in the areas of rural connectivity and digital literacy.” he said.
The event held on Tuesday had Simon Milner, Vice President of Public Policy for Asia Pacific at Meta who announced Meta’s increased commitment to supporting Pakistan’s digital economy and entrepreneurs by expanding their Prosper Pakistan initiative in the country and training an additional 10,000 students to harness the power of digital tools for economic growth.
Furthermore, Speaking on the event Ms. Sehar Tariq, Head of Policy for Pakistan at Meta reaffirmed Meta’s commitment to supporting Pakistani Youth and highlighted the incredible response of TEVTA’s female students during online trainings in the pandemic. “Seeing how women from across TEVTA’s canters showed up to learn skills related to online marketing and business management and then seeing them apply these skills to grow their businesses by increasing sales, finding new customers, opening new branches, creating jobs and hiring more people is what gives me immense hope and excitement about the future of Pakistan. Our women entrepreneurs in particular are resilient and creative and if we continue to enable them they will lead the way in transforming Pakistan’s economy. We at Meta are proud and excited to play a part in supporting this transformation.
The Chairperson also directed team to call upon all Stakeholders inclusive of Skill Authorities, Global Tech Firms, Private Sector & Donors to be Part of National Narrative on Skill as envisioned in Skill Ecosystem by TEVTA Punjab.
