It is that time of the year again. Have exams come up? Exam season can bring on levels of stress that can cause difficulties for students to study. But a little stress can be a good thing as it can be that motivational push that we need to get things done. Sometimes, the pressure you feel can be extremely helpful because it can keep you focused and right on track.
Here are some handy tips to help you cope with stress during exam time.
1. Exercise regularly
Exercise and other physical activities have proven to be an excellent stress buster. Go out for a walk, run or head to the gym. Exercise can boost your mood which would help you to focus more on your studies.
2. Don’t (always) listen to others
While it is great to discuss exam topics with your fellow students, try not to compare other person’s revision with that of your own. There is a high chance that listening to what others have learned might stress you out more and make you think that you are way behind and not progressing very well.
3. Set realistic goals and plan
Setting realistic goals whether you have several weeks or months before your exam helps you put everything into perspective. Planning will help you maximize your productivity without the risk of burning yourself out. Having a well-structured study plan will help you become more organized and motivated.
4. Take regular breaks
Even having the most intense exam timetables allow a little time for a study break. Don’t stress yourself out by constantly studying and not taking a break at all. This can include a 30-minute break from the studies. Go out with friends for a bit, watch a movie or do anything that you like doing in your spare time that will take your mind off exams. Spending a little time away from your books will freshen up your mind and make you feel relaxed.
5. Consuming dark chocolate
Studies have shown how dark chocolate contributes to countering stress hormones and releases endorphins, which are natural stress reducers. Besides chocolates are an indulgence that very few people can ignore.
6. Sleep
Sleeping well can be crucial for many in the exam season. Scientific studies have shown how a proper sleep helps your brain absorb more knowledge and remember information for a much longer period. A good night’s sleep can also help in reducing stress levels. So, don’t forget to improve your sleep cycle.
7. Eating healthy
Eating healthily during exams should be on your priority list as healthy food contributes to stress reduction. It helps you detoxify, makes one feel good from within and keeps all those negative thoughts away.
8. Time management
Many students face the issue regarding time management, but you can counter this problem if you manage your time wisely. Implementing effective time management methods can help you stay focused, motivated, relaxed and study at a comfortable pace. Start your preparations well before your exams begin and divide your time accordingly so you have enough time left for revision.
9. Believe in yourself
Try keeping all the negative thoughts away. When constantly faced with challenges, people often forget how far they have come, fighting through those hurdles and how much they have achieved. Given that you have prepared well, there is no need for you to worry. Stay focused and believe in yourself.
10. If you feel like you are struggling, talk to someone
Some people might think that asking for help is shameful, well, it is not. If you are struggling, talk to your family, teachers or even your friends about how you are feeling. Don’t be afraid to seek professional help and support. There is nothing wrong with that.
