Total Tobacco Ban in Punjab Educational Institutions

The Punjab Government has taken a groundbreaking step in public health by implementing a complete ban on all tobacco and nicotine products—including cigarettes, vapes, heated tobacco products, and nicotine pouches—within all public and private educational institutions across the province.

This decisive move aims to create a safer, tobacco-free learning environment. The initiative was strongly championed by Chromatic, a prominent public health organization, which actively collaborated with authorities to advocate for this crucial reform.

A Zero Tolerance Policy has been put in place to ensure strict enforcement, with clear directives for stringent action against violations. This measure is expected to safeguard students from the harmful effects of tobacco and nicotine consumption.

The Punjab Government’s firm stance on this issue sets a strong precedent for youth protection, while Chromatic’s persistent efforts in promoting a healthier, smoke-free educational environment are commendable.

Education Minister Punjab Rana Sikandar Hayat, MPA Amina Hassan Sheikh, and Parliamentary Secretary Sultan Bajwa played a vital role in supporting and advancing this initiative under the leadership of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz. Their commitment to strengthening public health policies has been instrumental in achieving this milestone.
