The Consul General of the United Arab Emirates (UAE)Â Dr. Bakheet Ateeq Al Remeithi, made a significant visit to Punjab University (PU) where he met with Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood. Accompanied by a delegation from the UAE, including Director of PU’s Sheikh Zayed Islamic Center, Prof Dr Muhammad Abdullah, and Dr. Harris Mubeen, Dr. Al Remeithi emphasized the strong historical ties between the UAE and Pakistan.

He lauded Pakistan as a great nation, highlighting the warmth and friendliness of its people. Recognizing the pivotal role of Pakistanis in the UAE’s development, he acknowledged the contributions of institutions like Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) in laying the groundwork for Emirates.
Addressing concerns about negative narratives circulating on social media, Dr. Al Remeithi reassured that the UAE dismisses such propaganda and remains steadfast in its support for Pakistan, standing shoulder to shoulder during challenging times. Furthermore, he pledged increased scholarship opportunities for Pakistani students and committed additional resources for the refurbishment and enhancement of PU’s Sheikh Zayed Islamic Center.
In response, Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood, the Vice-Chancellor of Punjab University, expressed gratitude for the UAE’s significant contributions to education and healthcare in Pakistan. He stressed the importance of fostering closer collaboration between Pakistani universities and those in the United Arab Emirates to further bolster educational and research endeavors.
