UAJK Concludes Successful Inter-University Sports Championship

The University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (UAJK) wrapped up its much-anticipated Azad Jammu and Kashmir Inter-University Sports Championship with a grand closing ceremony at its Chella Campus on Wednesday. The event featured intense badminton (boys) and cricket (girls) competitions, showcasing the talent and sportsmanship of universities from across the region. The Vice-Chancellor of UAJK, Prof Dr Muhammad Kaleem Abbasi, presided as the chief guest, offering words of encouragement and praise for all participants.

In his address, Prof Dr Abbasi applauded the winning teams and runners-up for their performances, stressing the important role of sports in fostering unity and resilience among young people. “Sports are not just about winning; they help us build the strength to accept defeat with grace,” he remarked. He also highlighted the role of sports in bringing students from different universities together, strengthening teamwork and collaboration.

The Director of Sports from the University of Poonch Rawalakot, Mr Muhammad Younis, praised UAJK for its impeccable organization of the championship, noting the warm, inclusive atmosphere that the university created for all participants. Ms Nighat Naz Gillani, UAJK’s Director of Sports, also spoke at the ceremony, emphasizing the significance of such events in promoting sportsmanship and fostering a spirit of unity among young athletes.

In the Badminton (Boys) Championship, the University of Poonch Rawalakot (UPR) secured the top position, with UAJK finishing as runners-up, while Mirpur University of Science and Technology (MUST) claimed third place. The Cricket (Girls) Championship saw UAJK triumph as the champions, followed by the University of Poonch Rawalakot as the runner-up, and MUST in third place.

The winning teams were honored with trophies, certificates, and mementos, presented by Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Abbasi and other dignitaries. The event saw participation from universities including the University of Kotli (UoK-AJK), Mirpur University of Science and Technology, the University of Poonch Rawalakot, and UAJK, with all teams demonstrating remarkable talent and sportsmanship.

UAJK’s commitment to promoting sports as a key part of its students’ development was evident throughout the event. The university expressed its desire to continue organizing similar events in the future, further nurturing young talent and fostering a healthy spirit of competition among academic institutions in the region.

The championship served as a celebration of athletic excellence and camaraderie, reinforcing the university’s belief in the holistic development of students both on and off the field.
