The University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (UAJK) held an insightful seminar on the “Negative Impacts of Social Media and Preventive Measures” at its City Campus, bringing together students, faculty members, and experts to discuss the profound effects of digital platforms on individuals and society.
The event was jointly organized by the Department of Allied Health Sciences and the Department of Law. It featured Brigadier Waqar Najeeb as the chief guest, while Dr Mubashar Naqvi, Public Relations Officer of UAJK, delivered the keynote address.
In his speech, Brigadier Waqar Najeeb emphasized the need for promoting positivity and constructive engagement on social media. He urged students to use digital platforms responsibly, fostering optimism, ethical discourse, and social harmony rather than contributing to negativity, misinformation, and division. Encouraging responsible digital citizenship, he highlighted the potential of social media as a tool for societal betterment and national development.
Dr Mubashar Naqvi presented a comprehensive analysis of social media’s adverse effects, including misinformation, privacy breaches, digital addiction, and mental health challenges. Stressing the importance of digital literacy, he advised students to critically evaluate online content before consuming or sharing it, reinforcing the necessity of responsible online behavior.
The seminar was attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Health and Allied Sciences, Dr Kashif, along with faculty members from the Departments of Health Sciences and Law. The discussion fostered active participation from students, who raised pertinent questions on balancing social media use, countering online negativity, and leveraging digital platforms for constructive societal contributions.
The event concluded with the presentation of honorary shields to the chief guest and keynote speaker, along with certificates for the organizers in recognition of their efforts. The organizers expressed gratitude for the enthusiastic participation of students and faculty, underscoring the importance of such discussions in today’s digital age.
