LAHORE: The University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore Dramatics Society member have won three awards at the New York City International Film Festival (NYCIFF

Darya Kay Iss Par (This Bank of the River) is a 30 min short drama film which recently won three awards at NYCIFF for Best Narrative Short Film, Best Director & Best Lead Actress. More than 96 films were submitted from all over the world. It’s an honor for UET that this short film produced by its graduates has made its mark globally by beating many other countries.

The film is inspired by real life stories & an increasing suicide rate especially in girls of the Chitral, yet there has been no discussion going on the country’s mainstream media. The film holds a mirror to the behavior of the society towards mental health, cultural norms, domestic violence, less & unequal opportunities given to girls. The film depicts the life of young girls who are burdened with responsibility at such a young age & the lack of an appropriate support system available.

The film was directed by Mr. Shoaib Sultan Session 1994, written by Mir Hamza Session 2011 &

Edited by Ali Kazmi Session 2005. Best lead actor was Qasim Fareed from Session 2005 and the central role was played by Hiba Sultan. Our heartiest congratulations to the whole Team of “Darya Kay Iss Par” (This Bank of the River) & “LOCKDOWN PRODUCTIONS”. Keep raising the bar & making Pakistan & Pakistani Cinema proud.
