The management of the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) has expelled 67 faculty members who went on scholarship to foreign countries and didn’t come back.

According to details, several UET faculty members including Assistant Professors, Associate Professors and Professors went to Europe, the US and Canada for pursuing a post-doctorate, doctorate and other education on fully-funded scholarships. UET administration is unable to contact any of them as they are said to be slipped from their studies and did not even attended the said universities.

Sources told Academia Magazine that irrespective of scholarship funding, these faculty members are also getting their salaries in their account as per the rules and regulations of the Higher Education Commission (HEC). Sources said that many of those teachers might have applied for asylum just to get the citizenship of the country where they went on scholarship.

Sources said that university administrators have taken a strict stance about those teachers who were unable to rejoin varsity. Even, strict action will also be taken against the guarantors of these faculty members.

When contacted spokesperson UET Dr Shahida Nazir confirmed that UET has ordered the removal of services of those teachers who went on HEC’s funded scholarship a few years ago. They were removed just because they were unable to come back and rejoin their departments, she said adding that a meeting of high officials of UET suggested the removal of those teachers.
