The University of Home Economics (UHE) Lahore organized the 1st International Symposium on Art and Design, Tradition Fusing Innovation, and Art exhibition at the university. Prof Dr Shahid Munir, Chairperson Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC) inaugurated the Art Work Exhibition, with the display of 83 artworks of more than 25 varsities. The symposium was attended by artists and professors from the UK, Ireland, and Sri Lanka.

In an opening dialogue under the title of “Breaking Boundaries”, Prof Shahid Munir said applied knowledge helps art and design professionals to develop a deeper understanding of the technical skills required for their artworks. By putting theoretical concepts into practice, artists and designers hone their skills and develop the expertise needed to create works, he added. Prof Munir said by applying their knowledge in innovative ways, artists help shape the world around us and contribute to the betterment of society.

Prof Shahnawaz Zaidi, a renowned artist, said art has the power to break boundaries by challenging social norms, inspiring change, and creating connections between people from different backgrounds. By pushing the boundaries of what is possible, artists and designers can create new and exciting works that inspire and captivate people.

In a closing session of “Future Pursuit” Prof Dr Kanwal Ameen, Vice-Chancellor of UHE, said the primary objective of this unique international symposium on Art and Design was to gather professionals, scholars, and practitioners from around the world to share their research, ideas, and experiences related to art and design. She said this symposium helped in providing a platform for exchange and dialogue on the latest trends, practices, and innovations in the fields of art and design.

Saleem Ahmed Ranjha, a social entrepreneur, announced helping the establishment of the Fashion and Art Hub at the UHE. He was of the view this hub will have significant benefits for students in serving as a Centre for designers and industry stakeholders to collaborate, innovate, and showcase their work. By providing a space for networking and the exchange of ideas, this hub will help to foster innovation and creativity, leading to new products, processes, and technologies.

Aysha Bilal, Chairperson Department of Visual and Communication Design, Dr Sameena Zaheer, Chairperson Department of Fine Art thanked Rashid Rana, renowned artist, and teacher, Dr Rahat Naveed, ex-principal PUCAD, Amna Walayat, visual artist, RM Naeem, renowned artist, Prof Dr Asrar Chishti, Prof Dr Ahmad Bilal, and other renowned artist and speakers for attending the international symposium.
