UMT Hosts Fashion and Textile Design Thesis Exhibition

The University of Management and Technology (UMT) hosted a two-day Fashion and Textile Design Thesis Exhibition under the auspices of the School of Design and Textiles. The event featured Ch. Shafay Hussain, Provincial Minister for Industry, Commerce, and Investment, as the Chief Guest.

Minister Shafay inaugurated the exhibition by cutting the ribbon. The event was also attended by UMT Rector Dr. Asif Raza, Chief Advisor of Innovation and Research Prof. Abid Sherwani, Dean of the School of Design and Textiles Dr. Mumtaz Malik, along with faculty and staff. A total of 172 BS students from the Textile, Graphics, Fashion, and Interior Design programs presented their final-year thesis projects.

UMT students showcased an array of exemplary designs, including clothing, shoes, bags, jewelry, and other accessories. These works were evaluated and graded by judges from both the fashion & textile industry and academia.

Accompanied by Rector Dr. Asif Raza and Prof. Abid Sherwani, Provincial Minister Shafay visited the stalls and appreciated the work of UMT students.

Speaking to the media, Provincial Minister Chaudhary Shafay Hussain expressed his delight at witnessing the creativity and potential of young students at the UMT exhibition. He emphasized the need to promote the work of textile students at both national and international levels to enhance employment opportunities within the textile industry.

Chaudhary Shafay Hussain further expressed that the textile sector lags behind and must be advanced. The Minister plans to urge the federal government to lift the ban on cotton seed imports and reduce cotton taxes as well. He believes that collective responsibility can lead to significant improvements in the country’s economic situation.

Rector Dr. Asif Raza remarked that UMT’s School of Design and Textile holds an exhibition annually to provide students with opportunities for advancement. UMT supports students not only in receiving quality education but also in gaining practical skills and expertise in their field, producing top entrepreneurs across various sectors, as evidenced by today’s exhibition.
