“It Is Universities’ Responsibility To Guide Nation”

Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Niaz Ahmad on Tuesday highlighted the role of higher education institutions in a nation’s progress, saying it was universities’ responsibility to guide the nation and its youth towards the right path.

Addressing a seminar on Pakistaniat at PU’s Al-Raazi Hall, Professor Niaz said Pakistan had abundance of natural and human resources, which were guarantees of its bright future. The seminar was organized by PU in collaboration with Centre of Global & Strategic Studies (CGSS).

Former Governor Punjab Lt Gen (r) Khalid Maqbool, CGSS President Major General (r) Syed Khalid Amir Jaffery, CGSS Vice President Major General (r) Masroor Ahmed, former minister of information and renowned intellectual and writer Javed Jabbar, Zalmi Foundation Executive Director Shakeel Ahmed Ramay, CGSS Advisory Board Member Abdullah Hameed Gull, Syed Muaaz Muhammad, faculty members and a large number of students attended the event.

Addressing the participants, the PU VC said all institutions of Pakistan were delivering and state organizations were functioning properly. He added that Pakistan Army was the top military force in the world and that’s was the reason it could fight an enemy that was five times its own size.

Lt Gen (r) Khalid Maqbool said the recent issue of forced conversions was highly condemnable and could not be allowed in Pakistan. He said the Pakistan Army had the capacity to defend every inch of the country and its soldiers were the bravest in the world. The former Punjab governor said some international powers were fanning propaganda against Islam and the Pakistan Army, while there were some forces that wanted sexual freedom in the country.

Maqbool said Pakistan was strategically and geographically located in the most important location of the region and it was one of the most important trade corridors of the world. He went on to say that there was an abundance of natural resources in Pakistan and the people must work hard for progress of Pakistan. The retired general added that Pakistan would soon come out of its energy crisis.

Javed Jabbar said Pakistan had a unique national identity as it came into existence in the name of religion. He said that conspiracies were being hatched against Pakistan, “but we have the capacity to foil all such conspiracies”.

In his address, Major Gener (r) Khalid Amir Jaffery said the youth was “our biggest asset” and there was need to provide guidance to them in the right direction. He said the country’s future lay in the hands of our youth and “we must play our role to make Pakistan that is in line with the vision of Quaid-e-Azam”.
