The Syndicate of the University of Okara, in its 12th meeting held yesterday at the New Ministers’ Block Lahore, approved the recruitment of the senior faculty members including Associate and Assistant Professors and also sanctioned the construction of a new academic block worth 80 million.

The Works Rules of the university and new MPhil and PhD programs have also been approved. The Syndicate constituted a committee for the hiring of administrative staff up to BS-16.

The meeting was chaired by the Provincial Minister for Higher Education Raja Yassir Humayun Sarfraz who appreciated the UO’ administration’s efforts for striving to hire well-qualified faculty on merit and introduce new academic departments and programs.

The Minister also vowed to modify the act of the universities in order to improve their functioning and announced to establish 6 more district-level universities in Punjab.

The UO’s Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Zakria Zakar thanked Raja Yassir for positively supporting and endorsing the university administration’s decisions for the academic and infrastructural development of the institution.

He further said, “The UO is a progressive and forward-looking university where we are hiring highly competent faculty and administrative staff. Moreover, we are working on the capacity building of the students and making them dynamic and responsible citizens.”

According to the university spokesperson, the UO has held 12 successful meetings of the Syndicate in just one-year time and this reflects the strong progress of the institution.
