The Centre for Skill Development & Leadership (CSDL) at the University of Lahore (UoL) has launched its pilot Competency Development Program (CDP), specifically targeting students from the School of Creative Arts (SOCA). The program, under the expert guidance of Dr Hina Jaffery, aims to equip creative arts students with essential workplace skills, fostering career success, personal growth, leadership, lifelong learning, and adaptability.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! The CDP is a tailor-made initiative designed to address the dynamic needs of each field within the creative arts. In its initial phase, the program has already provided students with training in crucial competencies such as emotional intelligence, negotiation skills, adaptability, and mindfulness. These skills are critical for thriving in today’s fast-paced and ever-changing job market.
Students participating in the program undergo a comprehensive training process that includes self-rated assessments, professional interviews, and engaging activities like role-plays and live negotiations. These interactive methods offer students hands-on experience and valuable insights, enabling them to apply these skills effectively in real-world scenarios.
Dr Hina Jaffery, who spearheads the program, emphasized the importance of such initiatives in today’s educational landscape. “Our goal is to prepare students not just academically, but holistically, ensuring they possess the necessary skills to excel in their careers and personal lives. The Competency Development Program is a significant step towards achieving this objective,” she said.
The response from students has been overwhelmingly positive. Many have praised the program for its practical approach and the immediate applicability of the skills learned. “The training on emotional intelligence and negotiation skills was particularly impactful,” said one student. “It has already helped me navigate complex interactions more effectively.”
The University of Lahore plans to expand the Competency Development Program in the coming months, incorporating feedback from the initial phase to enhance its offerings. Future iterations of the program will continue to focus on providing students with the tools they need to succeed in their respective fields.
As the CSDL at UoL continues to innovate and adapt to the needs of its students, the Competency Development Program stands as a testament to the university’s commitment to fostering a well-rounded, skilled, and adaptable workforce for the future.
