UoM faculty up in arms against alleged harassment by Vice-Chancellor Dr. Gul Zaman

The Registrar Office on Wednesday issued a letter to the teaching fraternity at the University of Malakand. The letter containing reference to the Governor Inspection Team’s letter No 16-689/Inq/GIT/21/743-45 dated 30/06/2021 was handed over to 32 faculty members who initiated a peaceful protest against Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Gul Zaman for his wishful amendments in university’s statues.

The Registrar called all 32 faculty members to his office to hand over the letter issued by Vice-Chancellor Dr Gul Zaman. However, when the faculty members read the letter and saw a reference to the letter—issued on the same date—of the Governor Inspection Team, they smelled the rat and asked the Registrar to show them the letter received by the Vice-Chancellor office on June 30, 2021. But the Registrar failed to show the correspondence received by the VC office from the Governor Inspection Team leading to teachers’ demand they would neither receive the letter issued by VC Office nor would they leave Registrar Office until they are shown the correspondence received by the VC Office from the Governor Inspection Team.
It may be mentioned here that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Shah Farman has already constituted an inquiry body against the Vice-Chancellor University of Malakand Prof Dr. Gul Zaman for his alleged corruption in university’s development projects, illegal promotions and hiring, in addition to alleged charges of harassment of teachers particularly those involved in peaceful protest against him.
Also, university sources said that the teachers demanded the letter of the Governor Inspection Team received by the VC, arguing that both VC and teaching fraternity are parties in the inquiry initiated by the governor and if VC could see the content of the letter why can’t they. The teachers, on the other hand, have been in limbo, stating that they are deliberately kept in the darkness by the controversial VC.
“We have already been faced with victimization at the university as the VC through his Registrar has constantly been harassing us by issuing show-cause notices to us sometimes pressuring Head of the Department(s) to give Registrar Office in writing that we don’t perform our duty,” one of the faculty members said while lamenting the ongoing harassment of teachers by the Dr. Gul Zaman.
“If the same situation continues we would register our protest against the university administration led by Dr. Gul Zaman in front of Governor House in Peshawar,” another faculty member added.
