US Fulbright Programme has selected 156 meritorious students and research scholars to pursue their education or teach at leading educational institutes in the United States for the year 2020. U.S. Embassy Islamabad Chargé d’Affaires a.i. John Hoover congratulated the winners during an event organised to prepare the recipients for the programme.
“The American government believes in the power of education, and we’re investing accordingly,” Chargé Hoover said, adding, “We do so because we believe that investing in these programmes strengthens our relationship, builds stability and leads to mutual economic prosperity.”
The 2019 Fulbright programme selected students from 42 universities all over Pakistan, with 58 percent women representation in the group. These 156 new Fulbright students will attend more than 80 leading universities in the US, and enrol in different academic disciplines including energy management, social sciences and engineering.
US Education Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP) Executive Director Rita Akhtar said: “This group is about to embark on an experience that will enrich their lives. They were selected on merit–not just grades and test scores, but also their achievements in the context of their opportunities.”
All the recipients will return to Pakistan after completion of their degrees and will join the extensive Fulbright alumni group to not only enrich the lives of fellow Pakistanis but will also contribute to the socio-economic development of the country.
Fulbright Alumna (2013) Dr Shima Bibi said: “By sitting a multicultural class with people from all over the world, you will not only gain knowledge but will also grow in all aspects of your life.”
