UVAS Jhang Campus holds One Health conference

The College of Veterinary & Animal Sciences (CVAS) Jhang, a Sub Campus of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore in collaboration with Higher Education Commission (HEC) Pakistan, Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC) and Punjab Agricultural Research Board (PARB) organized a 2-day International One Health Conference at (CVAS) Jhang.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad presided over the concluding ceremony of the conference while Chief Executive PARB Dr Muhammad Abid, Principle CVAS Jhang Prof Dr Muhammad Fiaz Qamar and many renowned academicians, researchers, extension workers, public and private practitioners, veterinary professionals and students related to veterinary & animal sciences, zoology, wildlife, poultry, livestock, public health were present. Many international experts from different countries of the world including Pakistan, America, Germany, Egypt, Bangladesh, Turkey, Bahrain, India and Sudan attended conference.

Speaking on the occasion, Vice-Chancellor UVAS Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad said that one health conference recognizes that the health of people is connected to the health of animals and the environment. He said that One Health approach is important because six out of every 10 infectious diseases in humans are spreading from animals. Goal of One Health is to encourage the collaborative efforts of multiple disciplines-working locally, nationally, and globally-to achieve the best health for people, animals and our environment, he added. He also lauded the organizers to arrange this conference successfully on an informative topic.

Prof Dr Fiaz Qamar highlighted the objectives of the conference. He said one health conference is dedicated to improve the lives of all species, humans and animals through integration of human medicine, veterinary medicine and environmental science. The conference comprises 10 technical sessions, plenary lectures 15, oral 41 and 22 poster presentations and a mini exhibition. More than 20 companies set up their stalls on the occasion. Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad along with Prof Dr Muhammad Fiaz Qamar and other dignitaries visited stalls and talked to different industries representatives.
