The Vice-Chancellor Gomal University Prof Dr Iftikhar Ahmad withdrew his resignation a few days after he resigned from his post. Prof Iftikhar has also informed the Chancellor/ Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Shah Farman by writing a formal letter in this regard.
Prof Iftikhar resigned from the Vice Chancellorship of Gomal University after the provincial government decided to upgrade the faculty of agriculture of the university to the status of a separate university. The new university was named Agriculture University Dera Ismail Khan. Prof Iftikhar was not happy with the government’s decision.
To register his protest, he resigned from the post of Vice-Chancellor showing his full reservations that the government took this decision without the approval of the university’s syndicate. He also wrote a letter to Prime Minister Imran Khan blaming the provincial government for intervening in the varsity’s matter. Upon which, the provincial government of KPK sought an explanation from Prof Iftikhar as he bypassed the provincial higher education department and wrote directly to the PM. VC in protest resigned.
However, the Chancellor/ Governor KPK sent him on 90 days forced leave. Prof Iftikhar took a turn and not only withdraw his decision of resigning from the post but also decided to challenge the decision of the government in court.
