The Vice-Chancellor University of Okara (UO), Prof Dr Muhammad Wajid, called on the Chairman of Higher Education Commission (HEC) Pakistan, Prof Dr Mukhtar Ahmad, and discussed the issues and challenges of his university. Dr Maqsood Ahmed, InCharge the Department of Statistics, was also present at the event.

The HEC Chairman applauded the VC’s efforts regarding educating the marginalized communities and advised him to focus on quality of education to bring real change in society.

He asked Prof Wajid to appraise him directly about the UO’s HEC related matters so that he could arrange a video conference in the presence of the governing body’s concerned officers to instantly solve those problems.

The HEC chairman promised to facilitate University of Okara in every aspect. He further said that universities must have to manage the financial burdens through their own sources. In his message, he encouraged the UO’s young scholars to apply for the HEC funded projects and motivated them to focus on empirical research that could bring recognition at National and international levels.

Okara campus of the University of Education (UE) Lahore was upgraded to a public university on February 23, 2016. Provincial Assembly of Punjab passed the “University of Okara Bill 2016”. Following that, the Government of Punjab issued a notification on April 1, 2016.
