LAHORE: Providing equal opportunities in higher education for minorities and special persons is the responsibility of the society and the need of the hour. The government’s allocation of quota for minorities in colleges and universities is a good sign for the development of higher education.
These views were expressed by the speakers at the Vice-Chancellors’ Conference on “Equality and Inclusion of Marginalized Communities in Higher Education: Opportunities and Challenges” at a Faletti’s Hotel.
The conference was hosted by the University of Home Economics and the NGO Bargad. Chairman PHEC Dr Fazal Ahmad Khalid was the chief guest.
In her inaugural address at the conference, Dr. Kanwal Amin, Vice Chancellor, Home Economics University, said that there was a need to ensure equal opportunities in higher education. Experts should introduce a minorities friendly curriculum in the country that protects the beliefs of all the citizens.
Vice Chancellor of Lahore College for Women University, Prof. Dr. Bushra Mirza said that the first Sikh student to pass M.Phil belongs to my institute, who is now registered for her Ph.D.
She said that the university buildings are becoming more friendly for special persons in Lahore College for Women University and an Independent Living Center has been set up for special persons where all necessary facilities have been provided to them.

GCU Vice Chancellor Dr. Asghar Zaidi said that our doors are open for minorities. They can get their right to higher education through open merit and through the quota system as well.
