VU Hosts Groundbreaking Workshop on Generative AI in Education

The inaugural session of the highly anticipated 3-day workshop on Generative AI in Education, organized by the Directorate of Quality Enhancement (DQE) of the Virtual University of Pakistan (VU) in collaboration with the Asian Productivity Organization (APO) and the National Productivity Organization (NPO), commenced today in Islamabad. The event is co-hosted by Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) and marks a significant step forward in integrating AI technology into educational frameworks.

The workshop, chaired by Prof Dr Arshad Saleem, Rector of VU, and Prof Dr Irshad Ahmed Arshad, Chairperson of the Department of Statistics, opened with insightful discussions on the fundamentals of AI and its transformative impact on education. Attendees engaged in a deep dive into the concepts and benefits of personalized learning, setting a robust foundation for the subsequent sessions.

Dr Fakhar Inam Raja, Director of Quality Enhancement, outlined the workshop’s objectives, emphasizing its critical role for the faculty and technical staff of VU and other participating universities. “This workshop is pivotal for enhancing our understanding and implementation of AI-driven educational tools, which will ultimately benefit our students and educational systems,” stated Dr Raja.

Day 1 of the workshop featured sessions led by esteemed resource persons, Dr Akira Murata, Associate Professor in the Department of Economics at Chiba Keizai University (CKU) Japan, and Dr Asma Shahid Kazi, Associate Professor in the Department of Elementary and Teacher Education at Lahore College for Women University (LCWU). Their expertise provided valuable insights, enriching the participants’ knowledge and understanding of AI’s potential in education.

The workshop will continue with Day 2 and Day 3 sessions focusing on AI tools and platforms, designing personalized learning experiences, and addressing ethical considerations in AI-based education. The organizers expressed their gratitude to Dr Murata and Dr Kazi for their significant contributions and looked forward to the continued success of the workshop.
