Web Of Science To Help Pakistani Universities Improve Rankings

Web of Science have agreed to provide private sector Pakistani universities their specific Bibliometric Analysis Reports and work for University Data Disambiguation in order to help them find the true potential and claim their true international ranking.

The insights will also help university leaders in strategizing data-driven intelligent future framework for sustainable elevation and development in regional level, especially in context of the ongoing policy of knowledge-economy of the current regime. Soon there shall be a Web of Science Model University in Pakistan.

Web of Science, previously Web of Knowledge, is an online subscription-based scientific citation indexing service originally produced by the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI). It provides a comprehensive citation search and gives access to multiple databases that reference cross-disciplinary research, allowing for in-depth exploration of specialized sub-fields within an academic or scientific discipline.

As agreed in Web of Science conference held in March, representative from Web of Science (Middle East and North Africa) region, Faisal Mehmood, visited Pakistan between July 8 and 11 to further evaluate private sector universities for long term strategic cooperation to enhance their global rankings. Meetings with university leaders at various varsities yielded identification of pre-basic areas to work in. In very detailed meeting, University of Management and Technology team, led by rector Dr Muhmmad Aslam showcased their university data to the visiting delegate and discussed possible areas of cooperation between the two agencies.web of sc 2

Dr Ayesha Zahid along with other top officials from Superior University briefed Mehmood on their current plans and workings to improve higher education standards. Web of Science have agreed to provide the university specific Bibliometric Analysis Report and help in University Data Disambiguation to empirically find the true potential of the Consortium universities and help them achieve their due international ranking.

“Seeing the will and vision of universities, I think soon we shall have a Web of Science Model University in Pakistan,” Mehmood opined. “Pakistan is entering into a great era of science and technology. Our national isolation in the sector is over. Soon the country shall emerge as regional power in science, technology, research and education,” convener of the Universities’ Consortium Shafique Ahmed Awan said during the meeting.

This visit was a continuation of the March 2019 Web of Science Conference where representatives from 100 national universities and journals from across the country participated along with delegates from the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan.
