A total of 173 design projects were shortlisted out of 500 entries from 45 universities across the country to showcase in the first Engineering Capstone Expo 2022 (Punjab), under the auspices of the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC).
The event proved a huge success in boosting research and development activities in higher education institutions in the country as it attracted the attention of local industry, academia, and engineering graduates across the country. As many as 50 projects, offering innovative engineering solutions to problems of local industry, were pitched during the event and picked by the local industries for technical and financial support.
The one-day event was inaugurated by Senior Provincial Minister Mian Aslam Iqbal and was attended by Provincial Finance Minister Muhammad Mohsin Khan Laghari, PEC Chairman Engineer Najeeb Haroon, Vice Chairman PEC Engr Prof Dr Niaz Ahmad Akhtar, Senior Vice Chairman PEC Engr Nayyar Saeed, PEC Registrar Engr Dr Nasir Mahmood Khan, MNA Kanwal Shozab, MPA Sania Kamran, Chairman Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC) Shahid Munir, Punjab Chapter Chief Organizer, and PHEC COO Engr Dr Mansoor Ahmad Baluch, Convener PPDC/Advisor to Chairman PEC Mir Masood Rashid, Governing Body members Engr Jawad Gilani, Engr Dr Zaheer Sarwer, Dr Amanat Ali, VC UET Lahore Prof Dr Syed Mansoor Sarwar, VC UET Taxila Prof Dr Inayt Ullah Babar, VC KFUEIT Prof Dr Muhammad Suleman Tahir, VC MNSUET Prof Dr Muhammad Kamran, VC PTUT Prof Dr Abdul Sattar Shakir, VC MCUT Prof Dr Prof Dr Mehmood Saleem, Deans, Heads of Department, PAAPAM’s Chairman, Abdur Razzaq Gauhar, and a large number of engineering students from various universities across Pakistan,
Senior Provincial Minister Mian Aslam Iqbal inspected the stalls set up at the expo and appreciated the students’ creative work. He said that the youth of Pakistan were very talented and had proved their skills all over the world. Such exhibitions should also be held in other provinces of Pakistan.
There were three symposia organized at the event: one on engineers’ role and responsibility in rehabilitation after the recent floods, the other on developing an industry-driven curriculum and FYDP for engineers where the speakers highlighted the critical contribution of engineers, and another one on quality management in engineering education.
At the end of the event, the Chief Organizer, ECE Engr Dr Mansoor Ahmad Baluch thanked the distinguished guests, PHEC leadership, and management, especially PPDC convener Engr Mir Masood Rashid, Chairman PEC for their support and patronage regarding the event, and universities’ Vice Chancellors, faculty, and graduate students who made the event a success story.
Engineering Capstone Expo (ECE-2022) is a series of competitions, organized by the Pakistan Engineering Council, among the engineering graduates of public and private sector universities across Pakistan to showcase their research skills, technologies, and Final Year Design Projects (FYDPs) focusing on industrial solutions and societal problems.
