Hartford Students Get Inside Look at Pakistan’s Diplomacy

Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States Rizwan Saeed Sheikh held an interactive session with students from the University of Hartford at the Embassy of Pakistan in Washington, discussing diplomacy, peacebuilding and conflict resolution.

The delegation comprised students enrolled in the university’s Master of Arts in International Peacebuilding programme and was led by Programme Director Phoebe Milliken and Assistant Director Hina Athar Khan. The students came from Albania, Ghana, Indonesia, Lebanon and the United States, with professional backgrounds including UN peacekeeping, interfaith harmony, public policy, community development and nonprofit leadership.

During the session, Ambassador Sheikh discussed Pakistan’s diplomatic priorities and its approach to resolving conflicts through dialogue and sustained diplomatic engagement. He also spoke about Pakistan’s role in facilitating contacts between the United States and China in the early 1970s and its continuing engagement on international peace and security issues.

The discussion also covered Pakistan-US relations and Islamabad’s recent efforts to facilitate communication between the United States and Iran. Sheikh briefed the students on the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding and Pakistan’s efforts to support diplomatic engagement between the two sides.

The students engaged with the ambassador on Pakistan’s diplomatic experience, mediation efforts and its approach to peacebuilding in regional and international conflicts.
