136 Tech Labs Transform Public Education in Islamabad

Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training (MoFEPT), Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, inaugurated a state-of-the-art IT laboratory at the Islamabad Model College for Girls, G-11/1, on Wednesday, marking a major milestone in the government’s efforts to modernize public education.

The new lab, part of the Ministry’s “Disruptive Education” initiative, is designed to provide students with advanced training in critical digital fields, including Python, JavaScript, Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, Web 3.0, DevOps, e-commerce, and data visualization. Officials said the project aims to transform schools into hubs of emerging technology, equipping youth with skills to compete globally.

Speaking at the launch, Dr Siddiqui underlined the government’s commitment to bridging the digital divide. “Our goal is to ensure that students studying in government institutions are not left behind in the digital revolution,” he said. “Technology is the strongest equalizer for Pakistan’s youth.”

The Minister praised the collaboration between the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE), the college administration, and partner organizations including CMPak, LearnOBots, and the Institute of Space Technology (IST). He noted that such partnerships between the public sector, private companies, and academia are vital for preparing a future-ready generation.

So far, 136 IT labs have been established under the project across Islamabad—30 equipped with desktop computers and 106 with Chromebooks. To ensure the labs are fully utilized, 150 Tech Fellows have been deployed to provide students with hands-on mentorship and training.

Educationists attending the ceremony emphasized that the initiative is helping to democratize access to digital tools, reducing the educational gap between public and private institutions.
