Academic Voices at CISS-AJK Highlight National Security Vision

The Centre for International Strategic Studies Azad Jammu and Kashmir (CISS-AJK) hosted a thought-provoking roundtable discussion on May 17 to mark Youm-e-Tashakur, reflecting on Pakistan’s recent strategic milestones and its evolving role in regional stability.

The session, led by Executive Director Dr Asma Shakir Khawaja, served as both a commemoration and a platform for scholarly reflection. She opened the event by congratulating the nation and armed forces on the success of Operation Bunyan-ul-Marsoos and Marka-e-Haq, describing them as pivotal in reshaping Pakistan’s strategic posture. Dr Khawaja stressed the crucial role of academic institutions in crafting informed national narratives and urged researchers to remain actively engaged in defense and policy discourse.

Associate Director Syeda Tahreem Bukhari offered a forward-looking assessment of strategic stability in the post-Kashmir crisis environment. She warned of future challenges posed by India’s current political trajectory and reiterated the urgency of resolving the Kashmir dispute through diplomatic means.

Focusing on operational insights, Associate Director Zohaib Altaf presented a detailed evaluation of Operation Bunyan-ul-Marsoos, describing it as a textbook case of multi-domain warfare. He credited Pakistan’s effective integration of advanced defense technologies and systems for neutralizing India’s conventional edge. Altaf emphasized that while Pakistan remains committed to peace, confidence-building measures and sustained dialogue are essential to regional stability.

Researcher Tayyaba Khurshid highlighted the significance of military communication tools such as the DGMO hotlines and non-attack pacts, recognizing their role in managing tensions. However, she cautioned that Indian war rhetoric and nationalist fervor continue to obstruct meaningful peace efforts.

The discussion also explored ways to amplify Pakistan’s narrative on the global stage, with participants proposing strategies to internationalize the Kashmir issue more effectively.
