In a landmark move, the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) government has unveiled an ambitious reform agenda aimed at transforming the elementary and secondary education system. The initiative was announced during a high-level meeting chaired by AJK Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwarul Haq, with top cabinet members and education officials in attendance.
The Prime Minister stressed the need for urgent reforms, efficient resource allocation, and staff rationalization to enhance the performance of schools across the region.
“We are investing billions in the education sector—now we must see results,” said PM Haq. He affirmed the government’s determination to eliminate teacher shortages and address long-standing structural issues within the system. “Our focus is public welfare and securing the future of our youth through quality education,” he added.
Key officials present included Education Minister Deevan Ali Chughtai, Home Minister Waqar Ahmed Noor, and Hydropower Minister Chaudhry Mohammad Rasheed. School Education Secretary Qazi Inayat briefed the participants on critical issues such as disproportionate school distribution, staffing gaps, and financial limitations.
A major focus of the meeting was the resolution of delayed teacher promotions. PM Haq directed education authorities to address the matter immediately, stating that the protection of teachers’ rights is essential to ensuring students’ constitutional right to education.
The reforms will also involve new legislation to eliminate bureaucratic delays and ensure consistent funding. According to officials, the changes mark a pivotal step toward building a modern, equitable, and efficient education system in AJK.
