BBISE and Karachi Board Postpone Exams Amid Crisis

In a sudden and disruptive move, the Balochistan Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BBISE) has postponed the intermediate examinations just a day before they were scheduled to begin. The exams, now delayed by three weeks, were deferred due to what the board vaguely described as “unavoidable reasons.”

Sources within the education sector have revealed that the real cause of the abrupt postponement is a widespread teacher boycott, which has thrown examination preparations into disarray. Despite confirming the delay, the BBISE chairman has yet to issue a revised schedule, leaving students, parents, and educational institutions in a state of confusion and concern.

The situation is not much better in Karachi, where the Board of Intermediate Education has also pushed back its examination schedule. The new dates are expected sometime after May 6, 2025. The board cited multiple logistical hurdles, including the unavailability of examination halls—many of which are currently being used for ongoing matriculation exams—and the lack of formal approval for nearly 300 examination centers.

Further exacerbating the crisis, officials disclosed that over 27,000 student registration forms remain unprocessed, and delays in tabulating previous results have added to the backlog.

The dual delays have sparked frustration among students across both provinces, who now face a prolonged period of uncertainty. Many fear that the shifting schedules could impact university admissions, scholarships, and future academic planning.

Education activists have called for urgent intervention from provincial authorities to resolve the administrative bottlenecks and ensure that students are not further disadvantaged by bureaucratic inefficiencies and labor disputes.

As of now, no concrete resolution has been announced by either board. Thousands of students wait anxiously for clarity—hoping their academic futures won’t be compromised by the ongoing chaos.
