Book Launch at UMT Explores the Sacred Dimensions of Time

The University of Management and Technology (UMT) in Lahore hosted an elegant ceremony to launch the latest publication by UMT Press, “Time: Scientific, Western and Islamic Concepts,” authored by the late Dr Hasan Sohaib Murad — an eminent educationist, visionary, and reformer. The book delves into the profound exploration of time from three major perspectives: its measurable nature in science, its philosophical treatment in the West, and its spiritual and moral depth in Islam.

President UMT and former provincial minister Ibrahim Hasan Murad formally unveiled the book, describing it as a powerful reminder that time is not merely a succession of moments but a divine trust. “To understand time is to understand one’s purpose of existence,” he said. “Dr Hasan viewed time as the cornerstone of civilization — a society that learns to value time learns to progress.”

The ceremony brought together leading intellectuals, including Ahmad Javed, Dr Khurshid Rizvi, Dr Amjad Saqib, Lt Gen (R) Javed Hasan, Syed Bilal Qutab, Hafeezullah Khan Niazi, and Orya Maqbool Jan, alongside faculty, students, and scholars.

Presiding over the session, Prof. Ahmad Javed observed that Dr Hasan’s work “rescues time from mechanical reduction and restores its spiritual dignity.” He emphasized that the book invites readers to contemplate time as a divine sign rather than a consumable resource.

Lt Gen (R) Javed Hasan noted that Dr Hasan’s synthesis of science and spirituality offers young readers a balanced worldview, while Dr Khurshid Rizvi praised the author for bridging classical Islamic thought with modern philosophical challenges. “His writing turns time into a mirror where intellect meets revelation,” he remarked.

Syed Bilal Qutab described time as “a moral currency,” reflecting Dr Hasan’s belief that sincerity in each moment enriches the soul. Orya Maqbool Jan called Dr Hasan a visionary who translated Qur’anic understanding for the modern mind, while Dr Amjad Saqib reflected that time, in Dr Hasan’s view, measures both human action and accountability.

Dr Naushaba Hasan Murad, member of the UMT Board of Governors, expressed gratitude to the attendees, noting that Dr Hasan’s disciplined use of time and his harmony between worldly goals and spiritual purpose embodied the very philosophy he wrote about.
