The British High Commissioner to Pakistan, H.E. Jane Marriott, visited the University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) where she met Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Zulfiqar Ali, along with deans and directors, to discuss areas of mutual cooperation.
The meeting focused on a broad spectrum of issues including climate change, food security, soil health, livestock development, and academic and research collaborations. The British High Commissioner reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to deepening agricultural and academic partnerships with Pakistan.
Prof Dr Zulfiqar Ali highlighted that UAF is currently running 15 UK-funded research projects aimed at delivering practical solutions to pressing challenges. He also noted that 430 female undergraduate and postgraduate students have benefitted from the Scotland Pakistan Scholarship program.
He further shared that ongoing UK-supported initiatives include projects on desalination of brackish water, entomology outreach, and the development of super-efficient sustainable cooling solutions. Emphasizing the urgency of climate change, he stressed the importance of joint research in soil health and environmental sustainability.

Prof Ali added that UAF’s global collaborations have strengthened its academic standing, with the university ranked 34th in agriculture and forestry according to the QS World University Rankings.
