The Punjab government has advanced its flagship digital inclusion initiative as Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz Sharif launched the next phase of the provincial laptop distribution campaign in the Gujranwala Division on Monday.
The ceremony, held at the University of Gujrat, marked a significant milestone in the ongoing expansion of the Chief Minister’s Laptop Scheme across Punjab, aimed at strengthening students’ access to modern technology.
Officials stated that the program is being rolled out in phases across different divisions to ensure a systematic and transparent distribution process. The Gujranwala phase follows earlier distributions in other parts of the province, reflecting the government’s commitment to bridging the digital divide in higher education.
In a move to increase participation, the Punjab government has extended the application deadline for the CM Punjab Laptop Program until February 28, 2026. Eligible students can submit their applications through the official online portal.
A notable policy shift in the latest phase is the inclusion of students from private universities. Under the revised eligibility criteria, students enrolled in private institutions who have secured at least 65 percent marks can now apply for a free laptop.
The initiative is designed to expand digital access and empower students across both public and private higher education institutions, equipping them with essential tools for academic and professional development.
