The Organization of Islamic Cooperation’s Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation (COMSTECH), in collaboration with the University of Modern Sciences (UMS), Tando Muhammad Khan, has successfully concluded a two-day Free Medical Camp in Chachro, Tharparkar, providing much-needed healthcare and humanitarian relief to one of Sindh’s most underserved regions.
The camp received an overwhelming response from the local population, reflecting both the acute need for healthcare services and the growing trust of the community in such initiatives. A total of 2,162 patients were treated on the first day, followed by 3,550 patients on the second day, bringing the overall number of beneficiaries to 5,712.
A multidisciplinary team of specialist doctors offered free consultations and treatment across a wide range of medical fields, including ophthalmology, ENT, dermatology, cardiology, gastroenterology, gynaecology, general surgery, and general medicine. On-the-spot diagnostic facilities enabled timely diagnosis and effective treatment, while two successful deliveries carried out during the camp highlighted the critical importance of maternal and child healthcare services in the area.
In addition to medical care, the organizers distributed essential relief items such as mineral water, juices, clothes, and shoes to patients and attendants, extending support beyond clinical services and addressing immediate humanitarian needs.
The medical camp was jointly organized by COMSTECH and UMS, with the support of Gourmet Foods, the District Administration Tharparkar, and the District Health Department, Government of Sindh. The initiative was undertaken under the leadership of the Coordinator General COMSTECH, Islamabad, Prof Dr Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary, who identified Chachro, Tharparkar, as a priority area for improving access to basic healthcare and promoting health awareness.
At the concluding session, COMSTECH officials handed over surplus medicines to the Medical Superintendent of Civil Hospital, Chachro-Tharparkar, to strengthen local healthcare services and ensure continuity of care after the camp.
