In a significant move to strengthen academic collaboration across the Muslim world, the COMSTECH has announced 70 fellowships for Yemeni scholars under Phase III of its COMSTECH-CCoE Yemen Program. The launch ceremony was held at the COMSTECH Secretariat in Islamabad, marking another milestone in scientific diplomacy and capacity building within the OIC region.
The initiative was formally launched by Coordinator General Prof Dr Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary, alongside the Ambassador of Yemen to Pakistan, H.E. Mohammed Motahar Alashabi, and the Ambassador of Sudan to Pakistan, H.E. Salimullah Taha. The program is being implemented in collaboration with the Embassy of Yemen in Islamabad and member institutions of the Consortium of Centres of Excellence.
Speaking at the occasion, Prof Choudhary reaffirmed COMSTECH’s commitment to advancing scientific research and education across OIC member states. He emphasized that the fellowships would provide Yemeni scholars with opportunities for advanced training, research exposure, and institutional collaboration, helping to strengthen human resource capacity in Yemen.
Ambassador Alashabi expressed gratitude to COMSTECH and participating universities for their continued support, noting that the fellowships would play a vital role in enhancing the academic and professional capabilities of Yemeni scholars and contribute to rebuilding the country’s higher education sector.
The ceremony was attended by representatives from several leading universities across Pakistan, including University of Management and Technology, COMSATS University Islamabad, National University of Sciences and Technology, Bahria University, Iqra University, Riphah International University, Fatima Jinnah Women University, University of Swat, Kohsar University Murree, National University of Technology, and Pak-Austria Fachhochschule Institute of Applied Sciences and Technology among others.
University leadership pledged full cooperation to ensure the successful implementation of Phase III of the program. They reiterated their commitment to facilitating Yemeni scholars and strengthening academic linkages, underscoring the importance of collective efforts in promoting knowledge exchange and regional development.
