The COMSTECH and the Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries (SMIIC) have formalized a strategic partnership to enhance scientific capacity in halal product testing by signing a Memorandum of Understanding to launch the SMIIC-COMSTECH Halal Testing Laboratory Fellowship Program.
The agreement was signed by Coordinator General Prof Dr M. Iqbal Choudhary and SMIIC Secretary-General İhsan Övüt, marking a significant step toward strengthening the technical and scientific infrastructure of halal certification systems across member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and its observer states.
The fellowship program is designed to provide intensive, hands-on training in halal testing and related scientific disciplines. It aims to equip scientists and laboratory analysts with practical expertise in advanced testing methodologies, enabling them to uphold internationally recognized standards in halal product verification.
Officials said the initiative will play a key role in harmonizing testing procedures and improving the credibility and consistency of halal certification worldwide. By enhancing technical capacity and fostering collaboration among member states, the program is expected to boost consumer confidence and facilitate trade in halal products in the global market.
