Dr Khalijah Awang at Sahiwal University: Highlights Natural Products Research

In a remarkable academic collaboration, the University of Sahiwal welcomed the esteemed Prof Dr Khalijah Awang from the University of Malaya, Malaysia, for a keynote lecture on groundbreaking research in natural products. The lecture, titled “Natural Products Research Strategies and Recent Findings from Malayan Flora,” shed light on innovative methodologies and the scientific potential of Malaysia’s rich biodiversity.

Organized by the Department of Chemistry in collaboration with the Directorate of ORIC (Office of Research, Innovation, and Commercialization) at the University of Sahiwal, the event marked a significant step in fostering international partnerships in education and research.

Prof Dr Awang, a renowned researcher in phytochemistry, captivated the audience with her insights into the therapeutic and commercial potential of natural products derived from tropical flora. Her research, rooted in decades of study, has contributed significantly to the fields of medicine and sustainable development.

In her keynote, Prof Dr Awang emphasized the critical role of interdisciplinary research in unlocking the potential of natural compounds. “Natural products hold immense promise for addressing global challenges in health and sustainability. Collaborative efforts, like those fostered by institutions such as the University of Sahiwal, are crucial for translating this promise into impactful solutions,” she stated.

She also met with the university’s leadership, including Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Javaid Akhtar, to discuss opportunities for future academic and research collaboration.

Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Javaid Akhtar expressed his gratitude to Prof Dr Awang and highlighted the significance of such visits in elevating the university’s academic profile. “Her presence today not only inspires our students but also paves the way for robust international research partnerships,” he remarked.

The event concluded with a Q&A session, where students and faculty engaged Prof Dr Awang on diverse topics, ranging from innovative research techniques to the ethical considerations of natural product commercialization.
