DUET Inaugurates Augmented and Virtual Reality Lab

The Federal Minister for Federal Education and Professional Training (MoFEPT) Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, inaugurated the state-of-the-art Augmented and Virtual Reality (A&VR) Lab at the Faculty of Information & Computing Sciences (FoI&CS) of Dawood University of Engineering & Technology (DUET), Gulberg Town, Karachi.

The facility, the first of its kind across both public and private universities in Pakistan, will allow students to explore immersive technologies combining Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, Artificial Intelligence, and their applications across multiple disciplines.

During his visit, Dr Siddiqui toured the Lab, experienced its advanced features firsthand, and praised DUET for integrating modern technologies into its academic framework. He also received a comprehensive briefing from DUET Vice Chancellor Engr Prof Dr Samreen Hussain (S.I., T.I.), who highlighted ongoing projects and dedicated resources being deployed to strengthen the Faculty of I&CS.

The ceremony was also attended by Engr Adil Askari, Member of the Sindh Provincial Assembly, and Dr Zubair Ahmed Shaikh, President of Muhammad Ali Jinnah University. Both dignitaries commended Dr Hussain’s vision and leadership in bringing high-tech research facilities to DUET.

Lauding the initiative, the guests described the A&VR Lab as a “goldmine for students,” emphasizing its potential to transform research, innovation, and skill development in Pakistan.
