The Sindh government has launched a series of major development initiatives in Lyari, with a strong focus on education, infrastructure and community welfare, Sindh Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah announced on Tuesday.
Addressing a foundation stone-laying ceremony for the beautification and renovation of Molvi Usman Park at Kalri Ground, the minister said a Rs 400 million education project being executed under a public-private partnership model is nearing completion. He described the project as a key step toward improving educational facilities and opportunities in the historic neighbourhood.
The ceremony was attended by Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, members of the Sindh Assembly, and Pakistan Peoples Party leaders and workers. Minister Shah reaffirmed the PPP’s long-standing commitment to Lyari, calling it a top priority for the party leadership, particularly Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
“The people of Lyari love the PPP, and the party leadership is proud of this relationship. On the instructions of the PPP leadership, the Sindh government is ensuring proper care and sustained development of Lyari,” Shah said.
He added that the renovated Molvi Usman Park would offer modern recreational facilities for children, women, the elderly and youth, including a reverse osmosis water plant, changing rooms and washrooms. Alongside this, renovation work at the Lyari General Maternity Home is also underway to improve healthcare services for residents.
Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab echoed the government’s development agenda, stating that Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has directed the launch of comprehensive initiatives aimed at empowering Lyari’s youth. He announced that development projects worth Rs 5 billion are being initiated in the area, focusing on the complete restoration of infrastructure.
Mayor Wahab further revealed that a major water supply project will soon be launched to provide an additional 10 million gallons per day to Lyari, addressing one of the area’s long-standing challenges.
