The Higher Education Commission (HEC) Pakistan has launched an enhanced version of its Faculty Exchange Programme, opening new avenues for Pakistani academics to engage with leading international universities while inviting foreign scholars to contribute to the country’s higher education sector.
The revamped initiative aims to strengthen academic standards, promote global research collaboration, and modernize curricula across Pakistani universities. Under the programme, faculty members from Pakistan will have the opportunity to teach and conduct research at prestigious institutions abroad, gaining exposure to advanced teaching methodologies and cutting-edge research practices.
At the same time, the programme will bring professors from technologically advanced countries to Pakistan for short-term assignments ranging from two to sixteen weeks. These visiting scholars are expected to deliver lectures, supervise research, and collaborate with local faculty, fostering knowledge exchange and academic networking.
The launch ceremony was attended by Minister of State for Federal Education and Professional Training Wajiha Qamar, Executive Director HEC Zia ul Haq, Member HEC Muhammad Raza Chohan, and the Ambassador of Germany, Ina Lepel.
Officials emphasized that the initiative goes beyond academic exchange, focusing on capacity building, curriculum development, and strengthening international partnerships. New and contemporary courses at undergraduate, master’s, and PhD levels will also be introduced under the programme to align Pakistan’s higher education system with global standards.
Speaking at the event, Wajiha Qamar described the programme as a significant step toward fostering innovation and ensuring the long-term sustainability of the higher education sector. She highlighted that international collaboration would play a key role in enhancing research quality and preparing students to compete in an increasingly globalized academic environment.
