The International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), University of Karachi, has brought pride to Pakistan once again as one of its young researchers, Dr Sharmeen Fayyaz, secured the Best Young Researcher Award at the prestigious Kazan Global Youth Summit 2025.
Dr Fayyaz, serving as a Research Officer at the National Institute of Virology under the Dr Panjwani Center for Molecular Medicine and Drug Research (PCMD), was honoured in recognition of her outstanding contributions to scientific research and innovation.
Prof Dr Muhammad Raza Shah, Director of ICCBS, congratulated Dr Fayyaz on the remarkable achievement, noting that the award is not only a personal milestone but also a testament to the cutting-edge research environment nurtured at ICCBS. He highlighted that the National Institute of Virology has been instrumental in advancing innovative diagnostic tools and research strategies aimed at strengthening public health.
The award was presented to Dr Fayyaz by Prof Dr M Iqbal Choudhary, Coordinator General of COMSTECH, during a special ceremony held in Kazan. An ICCBS spokesperson emphasized that this recognition underscores the institute’s global standing as a leading hub of scientific excellence.

The 2025 Kazan Global Youth Summit, themed “Education of Personality in the Era of Global Changes: Values-based Career Development,” brought together young leaders and researchers from around the world. The Global Youth Leadership Awards, including Dr Fayyaz’s accolade, were presented in collaboration with international organizations to celebrate innovation and leadership in research.
