Information Technology University (ITU) Lahore marked a significant academic milestone as it held its 5th Convocation on Sunday at its Main Campus on Barki Road, conferring degrees upon 528 graduates across multiple disciplines. The ceremony underscored the university’s growing role in advancing research, innovation, and technological development in Pakistan.
A total of 367 students were awarded Bachelor of Science degrees, 147 received Master of Science degrees, and 14 scholars earned their PhDs. In recognition of outstanding academic performance, 14 students were honored with Gold Medals.
The convocation was graced by Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, Ahsan Iqbal, who attended as Chief Guest. During the event, he also inaugurated several Pakistan Public Sector Development Programme funded infrastructure projects at the Barki Campus. These included Block B, the Centre of Excellence for Cyber Resilience and Digital Governance, the Center of Excellence for Microwave, Antennas and Radar Systems, and the Lead Centre for Artificial Intelligence, initiatives aimed at strengthening the university’s research capacity and technological leadership.
In his address, the minister highlighted that ITU was envisioned during the tenure of Shehbaz Sharif as Chief Minister of Punjab, with the goal of fostering a modern, innovation-driven Digital Pakistan. He praised the institution for attracting highly qualified faculty members trained at leading international universities who have returned to contribute to national development.
Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Adnan Noor Mian presented a comprehensive overview of the university’s progress. He noted ITU’s highly selective admissions process, with an acceptance rate of 5.3 percent, reflecting its academic competitiveness. He also announced the introduction of new programs, including BS Financial Technology, MS Management and Technology, and MS Cyber Security, aimed at aligning education with evolving industry demands.
Highlighting ITU’s expanding global research footprint, the Vice Chancellor emphasized the institution’s achievements in faculty research, international collaborations, and infrastructure development. He also pointed to ongoing expansion at the Barki Campus, including operational academic blocks and hostel facilities designed to support a growing student body.
