Jinnah University for Women (JUW) Karachi, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World Pakistan National Chapter (OWSD) to foster academic collaboration, industry engagement, and the advancement of scientific research in Pakistan.
The signing ceremony took place at the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), University of Karachi, in the presence of Prof Dr Muhammad Raza Shah, Director ICCBS.
The agreement was formally signed by Prof Dr Bina Siddiqui, a renowned Pakistani scientist from the HEJ Research Institute of Chemistry, ICCBS, on behalf of OWSD, and Ms Shagufta Noreen, Chairperson of the Department of Biotechnology, Jinnah University for Women. Senior faculty members and officials from both institutions attended the ceremony.
Prof Dr Muhammad Raza Shah lauded the initiative, describing it as a significant step toward enhancing academia–industry linkages and promoting research culture in Pakistan. He emphasized that such collaborations are vital for bridging the gap between academic research and industrial innovation.
Highlighting the mission of OWSD, Prof Dr Bina Siddiqui said the organization is dedicated to empowering women scientists from the Global South and strengthening their role in science and technology.
Under the MoU, the two institutions will jointly organize conferences, seminars, workshops, and awareness campaigns with a special focus on STEM education and encouraging women’s participation in scientific fields.
