LUMS Wraps Up High-Impact Green Productivity 2.0 Conference

The Asian Productivity Organization’s International Conference on Green Productivity 2.0 concluded at LUMS in Lahore on Friday, marking one of Pakistan’s most significant global gatherings focused on sustainable industrial transformation. The two-day event, jointly organised by the LUMS Energy Institute, National Productivity Organisation Pakistan and the Federal Ministry of Industries & Production, brought together senior government leaders, global experts, industry representatives and academics from 21 APO member economies. More than 80 foreign delegates attended, underscoring strong regional interest in advancing the Green Productivity 2.0 framework.

The conference featured intensive plenaries and expert-led discussions on themes including sustainable architecture, industrial growth, circular-economy innovation, energy transition, thin-film photovoltaics, digital productivity tools, green hydrogen applications, and sectoral best practices across power and oil and gas. Specialists from Italy, Japan, China, Thailand, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Türkiye, Vietnam, Pakistan and other APO economies presented cutting-edge research shaping the future of green productivity across Asia.

Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal stressed that green productivity is now an economic imperative for Pakistan, outlining the government’s targets for 2035, including 6 percent productivity-led GDP growth, $100 billion in exports, major emissions reductions, universal climate-resilient infrastructure and the creation of 2 million green and high-tech jobs. Climate Change Minister Dr. Musadiq Malik emphasised the alignment between climate policy and productivity, noting that Pakistan’s future energy security relies on cleaner and more efficient systems. He also highlighted the global contraction of multilateral climate finance as a major challenge for developing economies.

Parliamentary representative Shaista Pervaiz Malik underlined the importance of ensuring economic expansion while safeguarding environmental and social well-being, calling green productivity essential for sustainable national development. The APO Secretariat, represented by Zainuri Juri, praised Pakistan’s leadership and commitment to advancing the GP agenda within the region.

LUMS Energy Institute Senior Advisor Dr. Fiaz Chaudhry and NPO CEO Alamgir Chaudhry highlighted the value of collaboration among government, academia and industry, stating that the conference demonstrated the collective potential to accelerate Pakistan’s industrial transformation. LUMS Provost Dr. Tariq Jadoon commended the active participation of international and local delegates and emphasised that the shared insights will support Pakistan’s shift toward cleaner and more competitive industrial growth.
