Malaysian Envoy Delivers Inaugural Address at NUML

In a historic first for the National University of Modern Languages (NUML), the High Commissioner of Malaysia to Pakistan, Ambassador Dato’ Mohammad Azhar Mazlan, delivered an academic discourse at the university, marking the inaugural visit by a Malaysian envoy since the institution’s founding.

The High Commissioner was joined by Mr. Mohammad Syafik Firdaus Bin Hasbullah, Counsellor, and Mr. Muhammad Zulasri Bin Rosdi, First Secretary. The delegation was received by Maj Gen (Retd) Shahid Mahmood Kayani HI(M), Rector of NUML, alongside faculty members and students.

During his address, Ambassador Dato’ Azhar provided a comprehensive overview of Malaysia’s development journey and the robust bilateral ties shared with Pakistan. He highlighted key sectors driving Malaysia’s economy, including palm oil, semiconductors, aerospace, and the halal industry. The Ambassador also shed light on Malaysia’s chairmanship of ASEAN in 2025, emphasizing its commitment to regional stability, economic growth, and fostering deeper ties with South Asia.

A significant portion of the session was dedicated to educational collaboration. The High Commissioner encouraged Pakistani students to consider Malaysia for higher studies, citing its internationally recognized academic standards. He revealed that nearly 7,000 Pakistani students are currently enrolled in Malaysian universities as of 2026. Additionally, he spotlighted the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Program (MTCP), noting that around 800 Pakistani officials have benefited from its capacity-building courses.

Expressing gratitude for the visit, Brig. Muhammad Rafique Khan, Director General of NUML, described the occasion as a landmark moment for the university. He praised the Ambassador’s insights on Pakistan-Malaysia relations and reaffirmed NUML’s commitment to expanding academic partnerships through joint research, student exchanges, and collaborative publications.

The event concluded with an engaging question-and-answer session, followed by a cultural touch—attendees were treated to Malaysian delicacies including Nasi Lemak, Mee Goreng Mamak, and Karipap pastries.
