The Institute of Business Administration (IBA) Karachi marked Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day with a month-long series of vibrant festivities under the theme “Hum Zinda Qaum Hain – The Legacy of Bunyan-al-Marsoos and Marka-e-Haq.” The celebrations, held as part of the “Watan Se Wafa – IBA Karachi’s Tribute to Pakistan” campaign, blended patriotism, cultural pride, and sustainability, engaging students, faculty, staff, and alumni.
The activities began on August 4 and 5 with a patriotic video featuring national songs, poetry, and reflections on patriotism, followed by badge distribution across campuses to foster unity. A gathering of over 200 staff and faculty further strengthened the spirit of togetherness.
On August 6, the “Azadi ka Sabz Paigham” plantation drive saw 30 indigenous and fruit-bearing saplings planted by more than 110 participants, highlighting IBA’s commitment to a greener Pakistan. A quiz competition, “Kahoot-e-Pakistan,” held on August 7, tested participants’ knowledge of national history, while “Sada-e-Watan” on August 8 brought together ten contestants in a national songs competition with live audience interaction.
The festivities continued with a “Mini Marathon” on August 9, where participants ran distances ranging from 1 km to 5 km, promoting health, unity, and national pride. On August 11, “Rang-e-Haq,” a canvas painting competition, featured 60 artists showcasing their creativity before a panel of distinguished judges.
The cultural spirit was amplified on August 12 during “Saqafat-e-Pakistan,” a colorful cultural day and freedom walk led by IBA Executive Director Dr Akbar Zaidi, celebrating Pakistan’s provincial and regional heritage. A screening of the film Jinnah on August 13 paid homage to the nation’s founder. Sports tournaments in cricket, badminton, and table tennis also ran throughout the celebrations.
The grand finale on August 14 began with a flag-hoisting ceremony, followed by fun activities, a cake-cutting ceremony, and messages of unity from IBA Registrar Dr Mohammad Asad Ilyas, Director HR Mr Irfan Qamar, and Brigadier Umer Farooq, Regional Directorate Commander, ANF Sindh. The celebrations concluded with a breakfast for students, faculty, alumni, and staff, alongside the final matches of the sports competitions.
