Murree Girls School Tops Despite Dire Conditions

In the remote village of Aliot, a government girls’ high school has been defying the odds for nearly a decade by producing outstanding academic results, despite grappling with severe infrastructure challenges that threaten both safety and learning.

According to a report originally published by Jang News Urdu and reported by senior journalist Ansar Abbasi, Government Girls High School Aliot has consistently achieved remarkable success rates, including 100% pass results in recent years with many students securing A+ grades. This is no small feat, considering the school serves children from predominantly poor families in an underserved region.

Behind the glowing academic record, however, lies a grim reality. More than 300 students are forced to share a single washroom, while the IT lab established in 2012 has remained dysfunctional due to faulty wiring. The school lacks sports facilities and even a proper assembly area. Recently, safety concerns heightened when a large rock fell onto the school’s roof during holidays, damaging furniture and ceilings—a tragedy narrowly avoided only because classes were not in session.

The extraordinary dedication of the teachers has been a driving force behind this success. One female teacher has reportedly been paying additional staff salaries from her own pocket to ensure continuity of education. Despite their commitment, the school suffers from critical staffing shortages, including the absence of a headmistress and a desperate need for science, mathematics, and IT teachers.

In a heartfelt appeal, the school administration has requested Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to address these pressing concerns. Their demand is not for luxuries, but for basic educational necessities—a safe environment, functioning classrooms, and adequate staff—that should be guaranteed to every child as a fundamental right.

The situation at Government Girls High School Aliot highlights a much broader issue in Pakistan’s education system: how exceptional institutions in remote areas, despite proving that quality education can flourish even under adversity, continue to be overlooked and underfunded.
