Pakistan, MWL Reaffirm Commitment to Girls Education in Muslim World

A high-level Pakistani parliamentary delegation, headed by National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, met with the Secretary-General of the Muslim World League (MWL), Dr Mohammad bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, to strengthen cooperation on key issues including girls’ education, countering Islamophobia, and promoting unity among Muslim nations, according to state media.

The meeting took place in Makkah on Saturday, where both parties engaged in in-depth discussions focused on mutual concerns and collaboration within the Islamic world, the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) reported.

Speaker Sadiq lauded the MWL’s efforts in fostering solidarity across Muslim countries, highlighting its initiatives to promote a moderate understanding of Islam and its proactive stance against extremism. He also praised the League’s role in advocating for female education and presenting a positive image of Islam globally.

Al-Issa, in turn, acknowledged Pakistan’s longstanding commitment to Muslim unity and its influential role in addressing challenges facing the Islamic world. He referred to Pakistan as a key player in driving cohesion and peace among Muslim-majority nations.

Earlier this year, Pakistan and the MWL co-hosted a two-day summit dedicated to enhancing girls’ education across Muslim countries, drawing over 150 delegates from 47 nations including scholars, diplomats, and policymakers.

In recognition of Dr Al-Issa’s global efforts in promoting peace and religious tolerance, Pakistan conferred upon him the prestigious “Crescent of Excellence” award in 2022.
