NSU Signs MoU with Tongwon University to Boost Tech Careers

In a major step toward globalizing Pakistan’s technical education landscape, the National Skills University (NSU) Islamabad has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tongwon University of South Korea. The agreement, signed in the presence of Federal Education Minister Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, aims to equip Pakistani students with globally relevant skills, particularly in high-tech industries, and to pave the way for international career opportunities.

The partnership signals a bold move to align Pakistan’s vocational training with the demands of the global job market, including sectors like renewable energy, smart manufacturing, and medical technology. A high-level delegation from Tongwon University visited NSU to explore collaboration in advanced technological fields and shared insights into Korea’s renowned “earn and learn” model, which combines academic learning with practical work experience.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr Siddiqui reaffirmed the government’s commitment to developing a tech-enabled workforce. He highlighted ongoing efforts with organizations like NAVTTC to modernize skills development and prepare Pakistani youth for the age of automation and smart industries.

NSU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Mukhtar lauded the agreement as a significant milestone in Pakistan’s educational diplomacy. He also announced the university’s geographic expansion, with new campuses planned in Muridke and Karachi, to make world-class skills education more accessible across the country.

A key highlight of the collaboration is the establishment of six Korean language centers in Pakistan. Backed by Tongwon University and the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training (MoFEPT), these centers are designed to boost employability in East Asian markets and help transition Pakistan’s labor force from traditional sectors to high-value global industries.
